Michigan didn’t have another redshirt freshman begin at left tackle, That was Ryan Hayes, that left his college football debut due to an undisclosed injury that retained starting left tackle Jon Runyan Jr. out for the match. Mayfield enjoyed what he saw outside of Hayes.
“Ryan failed unbelievable,” said Mayfield. “Really only happy for him. He’s such a fantastic kid and I’m extremely happy with him. It’s crazy to realize just how much he’s grown and how much he’s learned on the past year and that I simply can’t wait to learn just how much he develops a lot more”
Hayes also impressed head coach Jim Harbaugh and has been awarded the offensive player of this week.
